Custom Portfolio Management
For clients who want more than the base offense
PAC Financial is an independent financial advisory firm in Harrisburg, and most of the investors who ask about this page have something in common: they built real money, they pay attention, and somewhere along the way their portfolio stopped feeling like theirs. It became a model in a lineup of models, rebalanced by a calendar, explained by whoever picked up the phone that day. Some clients want something more: our licensed investment team actively selecting individual securities, researching opportunities, and managing a dedicated portion of their account based on market conditions and potential. That is custom portfolio management, and for the right situation, it can make a real difference.
How does custom portfolio management work?
We carve out a portion of your larger account into a separate sub-account where our licensed investment team takes the lead. While the rest of your money sits in a managed portfolio providing broad diversification and professional balance, this portion gets a more active, targeted approach.
Think of it like your offense having both plays available. The managed portfolio is your running game: steady, disciplined, moving the chains. Custom management is your play-action: more active, more opportunistic, designed to move the ball when the right situation presents itself. We are not trying to beat the market every quarter or hit a home run every month. We are researching individual securities, watching for opportunities that fit your overall strategy, and positioning that portion of your account to seek growth when conditions align, with risk managed the whole way.
How does it work alongside a managed portfolio?
It complements, it does not replace. You are not putting all your chips on active management; you are keeping a diversified foundation while adding a vehicle for a more targeted strategy on a portion of your assets. Your advisor helps you determine how much goes into custom management and how much stays in the managed portfolio, and that blend is a conversation, revisited as your life changes, not a setting chosen once and forgotten.
Who is custom portfolio management for?
It requires a larger account balance and it fits a particular kind of investor: someone who wants to be more involved, accepts that active decision-making carries its own risks, and has assets substantial enough to make the approach worthwhile. In practice that tends to mean a business owner whose company sale finally moved the money out of the business, a family managing an inheritance, or an investor who has spent twenty years accumulating and now wants a portion of it working harder and watched closer. If your situation has gotten more complex than your current portfolio seems to notice, this is worth a conversation. And if it is not the right fit, you will hear that from us in the first meeting, because putting the wrong client into active management helps nobody.
Can I move my accounts from another advisor without selling everything?
In most cases, yes, and this question deserves a plainer answer than it usually gets. Investment accounts generally move between firms in kind, through what the industry calls an ACATS transfer: your existing holdings transfer as they are, no liquidation, no tax event created by the move itself. Certain proprietary funds may not transfer and get reviewed case by case, on paper, before anything is signed. If you are quietly unhappy where you are, whether it is the fees, the turnover in who handles your account, or the feeling that nobody has looked at your actual holdings in years, the homework is one document: bring your most recent statement, and if you can find it, the page that shows what you pay. We will show you what a transfer would look like, what it would cost, and what would change, and you can decide from facts instead of inertia. People switch advisors far less often than they think about it, mostly because they assume it means starting over. It does not.
What does it cost?
Fees depend on the account and the services involved, so we do not quote them on a webpage; we put them in writing before you commit, next to our Form CRS, and we will happily line them up against what you currently pay elsewhere. The first conversation is free with no obligation, and comparing your current costs is usually the most useful thing that happens in it.
The experience behind it
Steve Marrazzo, Tucker P. Nicholas and the PAC Financial team bring decades of experience working in clients' best interest, across bull markets, bear markets, and everything between. Our licensed investment team knows the research, knows how to evaluate opportunities, and knows how to manage risk. That is what you are tapping into with custom portfolio management: not a product, a team, at a third-generation family firm where the person managing the strategy is the person who answers when you call. Meet them on our team page, see everything else we do on our services page, and if old retirement accounts are part of your picture, our rollover guide covers that side.
Worth an hour?
Three questions decide it. Could you explain, in one sentence, the strategy your current portfolio is following? Do you know what you paid your current firm last year, in dollars? And when did a licensed professional last look at your actual holdings, not your risk score, your holdings? If any of those landed uncomfortably, bring the statement and the fee page. One meeting, one page, plain English, and the truth about whether a custom approach makes sense for your situation, including when it does not.
Call (717) 564-6400, or send an email tonight; it will be on our desk in the morning.
